Professor Arthur Petersen: inaugural address

Inaugural address

Professor Arthur Petersen has been appointed Special Professor of Science and Environmental Public Policy (April 2011).

This chair at the IVM Institute for Environmental Studies has been established by the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency. Professor Petersen will be conducting research and lecture on methodological aspects of connecting science and policy for issues that carry large uncertainties.
 
Within IVM’s Department of Environmental Policy Analysis, Arthur Petersen, together with assistant professor Eleftheria Vasileiadou, will co-ordinate the research theme 'Science and Values for Environmental Governance'. This research theme focuses on the role of scientific knowledge and values for addressing complex environmental problems, and specialises in three key areas:  communicating scientific uncertainty; values and sustainability transitions; and producing sustainability science.

He accepted this position with the lecture titled (in Dutch) 'Goed Vooruitzicht. Onzekerheid en het verantwoord besturen van de Aarde als systeem'.
